Carnarvon to Denham

Today we woke with birthday wishes for ‘A’. It was yet another cool morning with the heater being turned on to warm up the cabin. We had breakfast, packed and were on the road by 09:30. We have mastered the pack-up and car-packing now to military precision.

We headed south, had a few trucks and caravans to overtake, however it was a bit harder today with so much northbound traffic on the roads. We stopped at Overlander for a refuel and the boys grabbed a bite for the road (R got a sandwich and L a fruit salad). Back on the road and we headed towards Denham and also decided to take a minor divert to see the Stromatolites at Hamelin Bay. Unfortunately part of the boardwalk was destroyed with Cyclone Seroja last year and the area is all fenced off. So we stood on the shore, behind the fence and peered at the Stromatolites from afar.

Back in the car and we were off to Denham. By the time we got to Denham it was just after 1pm so lunch was required. We stopped in at “The Old Pub” (aka the Shark Bay Hotel) for fish and chips for “A” & “G” and a bowl of wedges for “R” & “L”.

After lunch we checked in to our new accomodation for the next couple of days. We were a bit apprehensive about this accomodation as some reviews were less than favourable. To our surprise the accomodation was actually not that bad. We have a three bedroom unit and it appears that its been re-painted recently and re-tiled.

We unpacked and then went for a walk down the main street of Denham to see what it had to offer. We then had a bit of relax time before deciding to head back into town to book for dinner tomorrow night and grab a couple of supplies. We enjoyed walking along the foreshore, checking out the local sculptures and testing the temperature of the water – absolutely freezing!!

Back to our apartment for a relaxing evening of roast veg medley followed by creamed rice with obligatory birthday candle for “A”.
