Katherine – Lake Argyle

Today we crossed the border back into WA!!!!!

Our day started out as usual with a very leisurely pack up of our stuff. The drive out of Katherine was fairly uneventful though we did see two rather large roadkill snakes (eeeeek!) along with a dead horse and dead cow 🙁

The scenery through the Victoria River region is really stunning with lots of sharp rock faces cutting through the ranges. We stopped at Timber Creek for a quick re-fuel and to grab some sandwiches for “first lunch” before hitting the road again.

On the way to Timber Creek

We crossed the WA border just before 2pm which of course quickly turned into 12:30pm! Crossing the border was pretty uneventful with the quarantine lady taking no time to barely look in our esky. Maybe because we had been so quick to declare a partly eaten sandwich and get rid of the contents of our car bin, she must’ve thought we were honest folk! The night before and this morning we promptly polished off two tiny jars of honey that we hadn’t yet eaten as we knew we wouldn’t be able to bring them back into WA, so we had done the right thing in case our car did get fully searched.

Lake Argyle isn’t too far from the WA border so we arrived pretty early and way before check in. We decided to sit in the beer garden way over under the shade of a tree and have “second lunch”. Unfortunately, a lady who wanted to wash her feet turned the wrong tap which promptly powered up the sprinkler near us and we got a wee bit wet!! “G” ran across to tell her she was turning the wrong tap and to turn the sprinkler back down and everyone had a good giggle.

We checked into our cabin after lunch which is not much bigger than a caravan. Although it is marketed as self contained and there is a tiny kitchenette, there is nowhere for you to sit and eat the food you cook except for outside or on your bed!! We had a relaxing afternoon with the boys and “A” going for a walk to find out what was around the place whilst “G” had a rest.

A very relaxing afternoon with homecooked pasta for dinner and the boys settled in for a movie in their room before an early/late night (depending on which time zone you felt you were in)!
