This morning we headed out for a cruise on Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge. We opted for the two gorge, two hour cruise which involved a short 400m walk over the rocks to transfer boats between Gorge 1 and 2 as the water level is too shallow. It was a fantastic cruise with a very informative guide and the scenery was stunning.
Some of the things we learnt on our cruise were
– that wherever an incomplete gorge forms, there is another directly opposite it
– the local Jaowyn people use a certain type of plant to let them know when crocodile and turtle eggs are laid, hatched etc
– in the wet season the water level is often 7-8mtrs higher than when we were there
– in the wet season they can get from one end of gorge 2 to the starting jetty in just 5 mins on their speedboat

After our cruise we headed back home for some lunch and a relaxing afternoon at the pool. The boys love playing in each of the pools at the different places we stay and reports are that the water in this one was perfect and not too cold.
After a pool filled afternoon, we settled in for homemade chicken stirfry and to watch Jurassic Park which is on TV – heaven forbid we had to watch it with adverts and without the ability to pause 😀 somewhat of a strange concept for the younger generation these days.
