We headed off rather late from Alice Springs after the boys had another go of the go-karts around the park. The weather was cold and mildly rainy for the morning and first part of our drive.
Our first stop was the Tropic of Capricorn marker, not that any of us were keen to stay out of the car long as it was sprinkling with rain and a bit cool.

Apart from stopping for fuel, today was much of a driving day. Thankfully the weather cleared up as the day went on and by the time we stopped at Karlu Karlu (Devil’s Marbles), it was hot with the sun having a fair bite to it. We wandered around the Marbles for a little bit. Pretty interesting after driving 100’s of kilometres of fairly flat terrain to suddenly come across an area with all these boulders everywhere and then it’s flat again.

On to Tennant Creek we went, a little nervous as we had heard lots of bad stories about crime in the area, even from the locals at Alice Springs! Needless to say, we’d already decided that we wouldn’t be stopping to see much and would be eating in our cabin. We arrived at our caravan park through a very dodgy back entrance, apparently they are getting an electric gate installed …. awesome. First impressions weren’t great of either the park or our cabin but we decided we would just have to live with it for one night. After unloading the car, we went to the pool so the boys could have a swim. The water was freezing but they loved it.

Back to our cabin for a warm shower … HAHAHAHAHAHAHA .. might have been warm if we had any hot water!! We went across to watch the nightly entertainment from 4:30-6:30, he was also pretty average but I guess it gave us something to do for a while.
As it was time for dinner when he finished and they weren’t doing pizza’s like they normally do, we decided to have pasta for dinner as the cabin cooking facilities were really limited. Oh my goodness, it took over an hour for the water on the hotplate to simmer, it never actually got to a boil! We put our pasta in and hoped for the best absorption method cooking that we could. It actually turned out ok even though it was now around 8pm and everyone was a bit over it.
Needless to say, after dinner and a bit of TV, it was an early night for everyone.
