Alice Springs (Day 1)

What a lazy start to the day we had this morning! The boys slept in until nearly 9am so by the time we were showered and fed, we didn’t hit the town until around 10am.

Our first stop today was the School of the Air which was really interesting and quite informative. This week is the one week per term that the kids all come together in town which explains why our caravan park is packed – apparently the caravan park that we are in was founded by a family who used to use school of the air and so they offer a discount to all the families when they stay here for their “town week” each term. On the plus side, it meant lots of kids for the boys to play with later in the day.

Next stop was the Telegraph Station where we enjoyed a quick coffee and snack for the boys. Just down the road and we stopped at the ANZAC hill lookout which offered great views over town and across the MacDonnell Ranges.

Into town we ventured to find some lunch as do a spot of grocery shopping. We had a look at the shops in the mall, ate a yummy lunch and stocked up on groceries. On our way back to our cabin, we detoured out to the airport to see all the planes which are parked out there during the pandemic. It is truly phenomenal to see how many planes are parked out there and despite my best efforts, a photo just doesn’t do it justice!!

Back to the caravan park and it was time to hire a go-kart for the boys to tear around the park. They loved their time and even took “A” and “G” for a ride around. About an hour of go-karting and they were pretty hot so it was time to hit the slide and pools. As mentioned earlier, there were lots of kids to play with so when the slide closed, the kids all played games of ‘it’ .

Eventually, it was time to head back to the cabin for a warm shower. We made chicken stirfry for dinner and creamed rice for dessert tonight, yummy!
