Uluru and Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) (Day 2)

This morning we met Nan and Gramps at 8:30am and headed out to Kata Tjutu (The Olgas) which is about a 50km drive. The morning was a little cool but once we got walking we soon warmed up.

Our first walk was a 7.4km, Grade 4, Valley of the Winds circuit which took us up and down various rocks and valleys. Some of the walk was pretty hard going, having to scale up a very steep rock face with nothing to help you at all and lots of rocky, scrambly patches to negotiate. It was a really scenic walk though which we all (GARL anyway) enjoyed and it took us around 2.5hrs to complete. Man were we stuffed at the end of that!

After a quick break to sit down and eat, we embarked on our second walk, a much nicer 2.6km return, Grade 3 walk to Walpa Gorge which took just under an hour. Wowsers were the flies bad on this walk, so much so that we all donned our fly nets! The scenery of this area is beautiful with green plants seeming to flow down the Gorge like a waterfall. Of course at the end of the walk we had to shout out a little Cooee to hear the echo off the Gorge walls.

Now all feeling completely shattered from our walks, we headed back to the resort to meet Nan and Gramps, grab an icecream and catch the 3pm Didgeridoo workshop. We did learn that the instrument is a Yidaki and the sound you make is didgeridoo. The boys had an absolute blast attempting to play the sound of didgeridoo with “L” managing to belt out somewhat of a recognisable sound.

Back to our apartment for a little rest and to catch up on some work and washing before heading out to dinner. We are soon to head over to the area of the resort where Nan and Gramps are staying to enjoy dinner at the restaurant there.
