Kangaroo Island – Victor Harbor

It was sooo hard to leave Saltwater House on KI this morning, we all really wished we’d booked longer there. G did a quick last drone flight over the house to get some more views on camera. We left the house and drove to Penneshaw with a quick stop at Brown Beach, drive by of the Hog Bay and stop for a coffee (well, coffee for “G”, hot chocs for “R” & “A” and croissant for “L”).

We boarded the ferry along with our car and interestingly a massive sheep truck also loaded onto the ferry. A very smooth ride back to the mainland but you wouldn’t think that if you asked “R” who went a very light shade of white early on into the trip. Thankfully a little medication and he managed to make the trip vomit free! Once on land we drove straight to Victor Harbor through some amazing countryside scenery.

Arrived at Victor Harbor to find it was absolutely, bitterly freezing cold. We hoped to catch the horse drawn tram over to Granite Island but it was unfortunately not running as the tram tracks are being replaced over the next couple of weeks. We checked out the Encounter Coast Discovery Centre and then grabbed our beanies from the car to head over to Granite Island on foot.

Across the causeway and we embarked on the 2.9km walk around the island which was stunning though a bit chilly in parts. Despite being chilly, the sun was shining so it was a pleasant walk. As we reached the end we saw some large rain clouds in the distance so decided to hightail it back across the causeway and hit the road to check in at our accommodation for the night.

We checked into the McCracken Country Club which is really nice and we have a stunning view across the golf course. As it was raining, we caught up on some schoolwork before heading down to the heated indoor pool for a swim and play. Not sure the walk back in the freezing cold was worth the swim but the boys loved it. Warm showers seemed to work wonders and everyone was ready for dinner.

We went to the bistro on-site for a yummy dinner – “R” had Caesar salad (I think he’s doing the Caesar salad half lap of Oz), “L” had salt n pepper squid (ditto for my previous comment), “G” a chicken dish and “A” the lamb shanks. We all decided to enjoy dessert tonight so tucked into affogato (G), brownies (A & R) and lemon sorbet (L). A brisk walk back to our room in the freezing night air and we’ve settled in for the night 🙂
