“Island Time” had certainly captured GARL today as we had an extremely relaxed start to the day, particularly as “R” didn’t wake up until nearly 9am! We enjoyed bacon and eggs for breakfast watching the kangaroos do their thing. After another load of washing finished we finally hit the road around 10am and headed straight for Prospect Hill.
Wowsers, 502 steps well and truly got the heart pumping! There is actually a defib about 3/4 of the way up which we both had a good laugh at, heaven help the person who has a heart attack lower down because I don’t think there’d be many volunteers to run up the stairs to get the defib 😀 The view at the top certainly made the stairs worthwhile and the weather was just perfectly sunny to enjoy the 360 degree views of KI.

Back down the stairs and we headed to the Island Beehive to check out the bees and buy some honey items. We bought a few small jars of different varieties of honey, some sparkling honey (non-alcoholic ?wine?) and the boys (G, R & L) enjoyed some honey ice-cream for morning tea.
Into Kingscote for a quick essential supplies purchase and we hit The Islander Estate winery where “G” enjoyed a wine tasting. The rest of us were a little bored as it was quite possibly the slowest wine tasting we’ve ever observed. Nonetheless, the wine was good (apparently!) and we left with a couple of bottles in hand.
Onto American River which was a nice spot but there could be soooo much more done with the area. There was one cafe to eat at really and it had a very limited menu. Fish and chips it was for everyone for lunch and we departed pretty promptly.
Pennington Bay, which is quite close to our accomodation, was the place to go for the afternoon … or so we thought. The swell was really big, the wind was blowing a gale and altogether not the nicest beach for the afternoon. Decided to head to Penneshaw and check out that area where the boys found themselves a lovely beach to play at Hog Bay. With boogie boards from our AirBnB in hand, the boys hit the water which was relatively calm though getting deeper every second as the tide was coming in. “G” and “A” enjoyed relaxing in the sunshine while the boys played in the water and then spent time building sandcastles.

Around 4pm we called it quits and headed back home, arriving at the perfect time to get our washing off the line before the rain started. Tonight we enjoyed a roast for dinner and are currently enjoying sitting by the fireplace.
