What a busy day we had venturing around Kangaroo Island. We started out this morning eating breakfast watching the kangaroos off the balcony, little bit of a dispute between two males provided us with good entertainment! We hit the road and our first stop was Seal Bay where we walked the boardwalk and watched the sea lions basking in the sun. A well deserved rest for them we decided as we learnt that they spend about 3 days out at sea foraging then return to the land for about 3 days of rest. It was incredible to see them so close.

Just a short distance up the road and we were at our second stop of the day, Raptor Domain, where we watched the Birds of Prey show which was really interactive and we learnt a lot. The boys got to hold owls, falcons and cockatoos so that was pretty cool. We also met the Wedge-Tailed Eagle who is actually a big smooch and likes cuddles π It was an informative show that we all enjoyed.

Back on the road and a quick look at Vivonne Bay and a stop at the general store to grab a bite to eat (hotdogs) and we were on the road again. Into the Flinders Chase National Park to Remarkable Rocks which was our next stop and their name really does explain everything, they are quite remarkable looking and to see how the sea and wind has made them so smooth is pretty special.

Just around the corner and we were at Admirals Arch and the Cape Du Couedic lighthouse. A bit of a walk and quite a few stairs down into Admirals Arch which was amazing. The power of the ocean here is unforgiving and we all commented how we would hate to be out there in any sort of sea vessel!! The fur seals here were very cute basking in the sun and no doubt having a break from the smashing seas.

Up for a quick look at the lighthouse and we were on our way again, doing the “loop” of Kangaroo Island on the only main road that really runs around the island. Up the top of KI, we stopped at Stokes Bay which was a lot of fun because in order to access the beach you have to go through and between rocks and follow a rocky tunnel to come out onto a massive beach. Sadly it’s not really a swimming beach though as it has massive rips which are well signed!

Back on the road toward our AirBnB as it was now about 5pm and the wildlife was starting to become a bit more active. Only one slam of the brakes required for a roo who decided to cross the road right at the wrong time and we safely made it back “home”. We threw together a quick chicken stir-fry for dinner and ate watching the families of kangaroos taking turns drinking from the watering hole. Everyone is quite exhausted now after a day of lots of walking so I think it will be an early night for all.
