Today we bid farewell to Granny, Poppy and our little furbaby Shadow who we are going to miss dearly over the next few months. After packing up the car, we hit the road around 9am. It was a beautiful day for a drive with the sun shining and music pumping in the car. A little overtaking required, mainly of oversized farm machinery, and I’m afraid to say one less bird in the world (RIP bird, the Kia says sorry).

Once we reached Jerramungup, we had a quick drive around “town”, stopped for a loo break but unfortunately nothing else was open (no surprise being Easter Monday) so our hopes of a delicious morning tea went out the window.
Around 12pm we arrived in Ravensthorpe to the long-awaited Yummylicious Candy Shack which the boys were really looking forward to! Yummylicious Candy Shack boasts the largest freestanding lollipop in the world and an impressive 44 unit buffet of lollies, needless to say the choices were seemingly endless. We filled up with fuel, spent a fortune on lollies (ok, it wasn’t that much really) and headed across the road to the Ravy Cafe for some toasted sandwiches for lunch and a coffee for G.

A quick stretch of our legs in the park next to the Ravy Cafe before we hit the road again. We did have a bit of a laugh as we sat eating lunch and looked across at our car which looked absolutely tiny in the line of parked 4WDs and caravans.
A few roadworks on the road between Ravensthorpe and Esperance due to recent flooding so there were a few slow, gravel patches but nothing too bad. We have now discovered possibly the most dangerous over-taker on the West Aussie roads, a Campervan which whizzed past us in an 80 zone just before it changed to 110 across a solid white line and then later we watched it overtake a 4WD that was stuck in a queue of traffic – of course, there was no room for them to squeeze back in anywhere so everyone had to slam their brakes on to prevent a head on collision with a car coming the other direction.
We arrived in Esperance around 3pm and checked in to our accommodation – The Jetty Resort – where we have a 2 bed, 2 bath apartment. The apartment is really lovely although you do have to go up a flight of stairs to enter it which of course makes luggage unloading that bit more challenging. It is situated directly across the road from the foreshore and the Tanker Jetty so a perfect location. After we unloaded the car, we decided to go for a wander along the foreshore. The weather was absolutely perfect so we strolled for about an hour and a half before returning to our apartment for a little relax before heading out again for dinner.

We headed to the Pier Restaurant for dinner – think typical country pub style restaurant. The boys shared a Caesar salad and kids pizza, G had the local fish and chips and A had the chicken schnitzel with mash and veg. It was all really delicious so we just had to try the dessert too! With not much room left in anyone’s tummies, R & A shared the churros whilst G & L shared the sticky date pudding, again it was all delicious!

We all returned back to our apartment and the boys had a spa whilst we have been typing up the blog. Now it is time for a bit of Lego Masters on TV and then time for some shut eye.
We are hoping the weather will be as beautiful as it was this afternoon for the remainder of our time in Esperance but BOM doesn’t seem to think it will be 🙁
