We hired a BBQ pontoon for half a day to explore Lake Kununurra from the water instead of land. We had so much fun skippering our little pontoon down the river, anchoring to cook bacon and eggs for brunch and throwing a fishing line in. The water was far too cold to go for a swim and I’m not sure if we would’ve been brave enough anyway, even though there are supposedly only freshwater crocs in the river. It was such a fun way to spend the morning and we got to see the Sleeping Buddha and Elephant Rocks.

After we got back from our little adventure, we swapped Katie the Kia for Barry the Budget Rent-a-car and headed out to the Ivanhoe Crossing. The water seemed to be a bit higher than it was the other day when we visited which made us a little apprehensive to cross but we took a deep breath and away we went. Oh. My. Goodness. I think new underwear might be required!! It was rather scary but exciting at the same time. Thank goodness “G” was driving. We went across both the crossings and then turned around and came back across again.

Barry taking us over the Ivanhoe crossing.

Just down the road from Ivanhoe Crossing is the Zebra Rock Stoneworks. We were lucky enough to get to go out to the workshop and have a really informative talk from the stonemason. He explained how all the different rocks are formed and how old they are. “A” was most impressed by the astronomite which is formed from ash from a volcano and then essentially acid rain drops bleaching spots in the solidified ash. The Zebra Stone, Okapi Stone and Ribbon Stone were also extremely impressive.

Back home and it was time for a pool swim and to empty Katie so she could settle into her storage parking for the next few nights. We are going to be fairly off-grid for the next four or five days so if you don’t see a blog post for a few days, don’t worry!! We are heading to El Questro and then Purnululu (Bungle Bungles) National Park.

Todays Sunset

What an adventure packed day we had today!
