Bit of an ominous warning to start the day today, we typed in our destination into our GPS and it said “Severe Thunderstorm Warning” …. eeek!! The weather started off overcast as we made a very slow depart from Ceduna as we soaked up one last view from our cabin. We decided to take the scenic route via Smoky Bay which wasn’t that interesting and then Streaky Bay which is a much larger town and looks like a really nice place to stay. We picked up some fuel in Streaky Bay and as you go to the toilets there is a giant shark hanging right as you turn a corner so of course I had to call the boys in to have a look and frighten the life out of them π

Back on the road and we headed toward Kimba through Poochera and Minniba where we stopped to check out the Australian Farmer statue and pick up some morning tea / lunch from the bakery. At Kimba, we checked out the silo art and the Big Galah before hitting the road again.

The drive from Streaky Bay to Kimba and then on to Iron Knob had patches of rain, sometimes heavy, but nothing more than a few minutes worth at a time. Through Iron Knob we went where they obviously have a problem with emu’s down the main street as there were several warning signs! The mine at Iron Knob was really interesting to see just how much the landscape could change with such a large scale mining operation.
On to Whyalla we went where we saw our first set of traffic lights since leaving Perth π π Thankfully the weather had cleared up and when we arrived around 3pm we seized the opportunity to hit the beach, jetty and marina. It was a really nice walk and on the way back we went past the Ada Ryan Gardens and did a bit of geocaching. Back at the Discovery Park Whyalla Foreshore the boys had a play on the jumping pillow, swings and Connect 4 set before heading to the games room for a bit of table tennis and arcade game playing.

At 5pm on Tuesdays the Park has a BBQ dinner for a gold coin donation which goes to the local Fire Service so of course we had to go there for dinner! We enjoyed a sausage sizzle, chicken kebabs and a variety of salads all for a good cause.
After dinner we jumped in the car and headed up to Hummock Hill Lookout to enjoy the sights of Whyalla at sunset. There is an awesome view of the steelworks and the coastline from the top. It’s obviously a popular exercise spot as a number of people were walking/running up and down the hill.

Time to head home via picking up ice-creams and settle into our accommodation for Lego Masters and a sleep before we head to Adelaide tomorrow.

Isnβt the Silo Art stunning? Lots of people doing the Silo Art trail in Vic too.
Are the boys enjoying the trip so far?ππ
The silo art is stunning Ria, it sure does makes the man made horizon items a bit more interesting.
