Kununurra – El Questro

This morning we bid farewell to Katie the Kia and took off in Barry the Budget Rental to El Questro. It isn’t a very long drive from Kununurra so we headed straight into El Questro itself and hit Zebedee Springs which was stunningly beautiful and the water was soooo nice and warm. We soaked our little bodies for about an hour before heading off into The Station area of El Questro. Thank goodness we had Barry as there were a couple of water crossings to negotiate and the “driveway” into El Questro is pretty dusty and corrugated.

At The Station, we had some lunch from The Cantina and checked out the shops before driving further into the area and to Chamberlain Gorge. Such a pretty area and lovely to see where all the rich come to stay when they visit. We decided not to do any of the other walks within El Questro as we were a bit limited for time. Instead, we headed out of El Questro and down the road a bit further to check out the Pentecost River crossing, the big one, not the little one we crossed getting into El Questro. Unfortunately, the highway was being re-done along the whole 25kms to the crossing so it was a very slow and bumpy ride. We didn’t bother driving across the crossing once we got there as it seemed a little pointless.

Back we went to check into Emma Gorge and our “glamping” accommodation for the night. We had a nice “tent” which had solid walls but a canvas pitched roof and an ensuite though the ensuite had no ceiling so there was little privacy for anyone!! We headed to the pool for a quick dip before going to the bar area for a little pre-dinner drink and relax. Back to our tent we went for showers before heading to dinner which was a lovely buffet. There were 3 tour groups staying the night we were there so we were glad we got in early.

We called it a night after dinner as it was pitch black outside so we went to bed very early at 7:30pm!!

And G has added some water crossing movies here while in El Questro

One response to “Kununurra – El Questro”

  1. I remember the El Questro water crossing – we were in a borrowed 4 wheel drive and had a flat tyre. GUG and a good friend Leone were in Kununurra with St Johns and the spouses flew in to join them as it wasn’t busy. The guy at the station fixed it for us with a minimum of fuss and very cheaply – also pumped up the spare. We were also lent a boat by the locals and Leone’s husband Derek took us up from Kununurra to Lake Argyle. A great time! I just showed Aiden your adventures. Kyle has had Covid and now Jess has it so can’t go back to the mine site yet. Glad to see you are all looking well and enjoying your travels.
