This morning we packed our last few items, loaded the car, made sure the house was neat and tidy ready for the house-sitter and finally hit the road around 10:30am. It was a very strange feeling to leave our house knowing we wouldn’t be back for 90 days!! Shadow was very relieved to find out that he was indeed joining us on our adventure. He had been quite nervous over the past few days as we packed everything up.

The first stop on our adventure is Granny’s house in Albany so we can check Shadow in for his own 3 month holiday 🙂 As we have driven this route a gazillion times before, we only stopped once at Kojonup for some hot chips for a late lunch, coffee for G of course and a toilet break.

The drive down was fairly uneventful. Lots of trucks and tourists (aka caravans, trailers loaded with bikes etc) on the road today so a fair bit of overtaking was required. There were quite a few roadworks with 2 separate occasions requiring us to stop for a period of time – think enough time to get out of the car and take a picture.

Apart from the odd slow point for vehicles or roadworks, it was a fairly easy drive down ……. except I (Ali) ran over a snake aaaarrrrgghhhhh … those of you who know me very well know that I am absolutely petrified of snakes so to notice one slithering across the road just before I ran over the top of it scared the living daylights out of me. I hope he stayed on the road and am pretty sure my wheels went either side of him so I hope not to have any stowaways.

We arrived at Granny’s house around 4pm to a perfectly sunny, cool day and spent the rest of the afternoon chatting and just generally catching up before enjoying a delicious roast for dinner.
